Kenya Government Sets Taskforce To Evaluate The Computer Misuse And Cybercrime Act.
To Conduct A Thorough Review And Audit Of The Computer Misuse And Cybercrime Act, The Government Established A Taskforce On The Development Of Cybersecurity Policy.
" It is notified for the general information of the public that the cabinet secretary for the interior and National Administration has constituted a taskforce to be known as the taskforce on the development of cybersecurity policy, standard operating procedures and related legislative instruments," the June 6, 2024, Kenya Gazette notice stated. The 21 member committee taskforce chaired by Mark Matunga, with David Njoga and Ericsson Obura serving as joint secretaries, will also identify any groups and inconsistencies and suggest specific Legislative reviews.
Mark Matunga, Peter Were, James Kimuyu, Jennifer Nga 'ng'a, Mary Christine Wanjiku, Dorine Wanjeru, Maj. Jamal Mohamed, Simon Kimaiyio, Terah Chadenya, and Janet Barulai are among the members of the committee. Others include Brenda Seko, Phillip Irode, Prisca Wambui, Benson Njagi, Celestine Oluoch, David Njoga, Ericsson Obura, Miriam Kakenya, Vincent Ngundi, Moses Thiga, and James Yogo. Along with creating the National Artificial intelligence and cybersecurity plan, the committee will also determine which provisions of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime regulations, 2024, need to be implemented and create a thorough implementation plan.
" The Taskforce's terms of reference are to develop a National cybersecurity policy, review the National cybersecurity strategy, conduct desk research, and study visits to identify opportunities and best practices to improve Kenya's cybersecurity regulatory framework." The secretary of the taskforce will be drawn from the National computer and Cybercrime coordination committee, which was established by the computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act 2018 to coordinate National cybersecurity matters. The taskforce will also advise the ministry of interior and National Administration on emerging cybersecurity technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).
