Two UK Hospitals Were The Targets Of Two Distinct Cyber Attacks.
While the specifics of what happened at Wirral University Teaching Hospital are still unknown, Alder Hey Children's Hospital was the target of ransomware assault.
Although the events are not thought to be related, two hospitals are associated to the National Health Service ( NHS ) in the United Kingdom were the targets of cyber attacks within the last week. Alder Hey Children's Hospital has opened an investigation after claiming that patient records and other data were hacked.
" We are aware that the data has been published online and shared via social media that purports to have been obtained illegally from systems shared by Alder Hey and Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS foundation trust ," the Hospital said in a statement. " We are working with partners to verify the data that has been published and to understand the potential impact."
Adding Alder Hey to it's list of compromised websites, Inc malware claimed credit for the attack and stated that the data, which included donor reports and medical records, was taken as early as 2018. According to Wirral University Teaching Hospital, which was impacted by the second cyber attack, it isolated systems after spotting suspicious activity which caused several IT systems to go offline.
" While [ Medical ] services continue to be available, there has been disruption to planned services, for example, some scheduled appointments are affected," the Hospital wrote in it's latest report. " Unfortunately we have had to postpone some procedures, which will be rescheduled." It is still unclear who committed the " cybersecurity incident ," as well as what type of attack they utilized.
