ChulaGENIE, a generative AI application initiative for the university community, was introduced by Hulalongkorn University and Google Cloud. Users can choose from a well curated selection of AI foundation models created for a variety of activities thanks to ChulaGENIE's integration with Model Garden on Vertex AI. Google's Gemini 1.5 Flash and Gemini 1.5 Pro models will be available to Chulalongkorn University users initially, with enterprise-level versions of Anthropic's Claude and Meta's Llama models becoming available in the future.

ChulaGENIE, a generative AI application initiative for the university community, was introduced by Hulalongkorn University and Google Cloud. Users can choose from a well curated selection of AI foundation models created for a variety of activities thanks to ChulaGENIE's integration with Model Garden on Vertex AI. Google's Gemini 1.5 Flash and Gemini 1.5 Pro models will be available to Chulalongkorn University users initially, with enterprise-level versions of Anthropic's Claude and Meta's Llama models becoming available in the future.

The program makes advantage of Gemini models' multilingual and multimodal features to enable users to explain complicated subjects in a variety of languages, including Thai and English, and to speed up and improve the quality of content creation. Users can also upload large materials, such as PDFs, to the models.

Chulalongkorn University President Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat emphasized the significance of the project, saying: "We needed best-in-class capabilities to accelerate the development of trusted and sovereign AI that benefits society if Chula was to realize its vision of becoming Thailand's premier AI university. Vertex AI from Google Cloud offers all the features we need on a single platform. It provides strong security, privacy, and safety measures; Model Garden flexibility; and the ability to modify robust foundation models for a range of applications and more precise replies.

This made it possible for us to develop and launch ChulaGENIE in less than three months, making Chula the first Thai university to provide a gen AI application for higher education that is user-customizable, complies with responsible AI guidelines, and benefits the community on a large scale. In order to attain maturity and adoption momentum, we intend to work with Google Cloud to constantly improve ChulaGENIE while facilitating other domestic, education-focused AI advancements."

Furthermore, ChulaGENIE will make it possible to develop unique AI agents for certain purposes, especially in fields like administrative support, consulting, and customized research aid. In addition to streamlining academic and administrative procedures, this capability aims to assist users in making connections and formulating new research topics.

Chulalongkorn University is dedicated to using AI technology responsibly. The university's governance structure and Vertex AI's safety filters work together to stop the creation of offensive or dangerous content. Google's grounding feature, which links to relevant Google Search results, will further improve response precision.

Regarding the collaboration, Annop Siritikul, Google Cloud's Country Director for Thailand, stated: "At Google Cloud, we think that the effectiveness of AI depends on its accuracy and ethical application. With features like grounding, model evaluation services, and tools for adhering to strict guidelines on data governance, privacy, and intellectual property protection, our Vertex AI platform enables businesses like Chula to operationalize responsible AI."

By providing the Google AI Essentials course, Chulalongkorn University has actively promoted AI competencies throughout its community. Over 800 Chula community members have finished the course, improving their knowledge and proficiency with AI. To guarantee greater participation and efficient use of AI tools, the institution is modifying the course for non-native English speakers.
