Due To Cyber Attacks, The Health Board Is Still "Vigilant."
After The Cyber Attack, NHS Dumfries And Galloway Claims It Is Still "Vigilant" Even A Year Later.

Almost a year after a significant data Breach, a Scottish health board has stated that it is still "Vigilant" for any cyber attacks. In February 2024, hackers gained access to a vast amount of NHS Dumfries and Galloway data, including private patient and employee information. Nearly a year later, the health board declared that it was " in no way complacent " about it's data protection and that employees must now complete an annual mandated program of cybersecurity and information Governance training.
Police Scotland states that they were still investigating the attack. Last February, the health board was targeted, and the following month, information about the incident began to surface. To date, Scotland has witnessed some of the most severe cyber attacks. The "Robust and rigorous response, supported by respected third party specialists offering a high degree of assurance" was something the health board claimed to have put up.
" However, the ever evolving threat of cybersecurity is always present, and NHS Dumfries and Galloway is working along with it's supporting partners to remain vigilant and ensure that we are taking all reasonable and appropriate mitigations," stated the statement.
ABSENCE OF DISCIPLINARY MEASURES
In addition to confirming that no employee had been disciplined in relation to the attack, the health board said it now works closely with staff to try to prevent any repeat attack. More than 100 people called dedicated helpline that was set up after the incident, and advice is still hosted "Prominently" on the NHS Dumfries and Galloway website. However, it had on how access to it's system had been gained, stating that could "Potentially invite fresh attempts" on not only it's own IT defenses but those of other organizations.
