Data Breach Impact on Kelly Benefits Increases to 400,000 People

Kelly & Associates Insurance Group, or Kelly Benefits, offers services in benefits management, brokerage, and payroll in Maryland and nearby regions. Recently, they've informed the public about a data breach that turned out to be far worse than they initially expected.

In December 2024, hackers attacked Kelly Benefits, managing to steal personal data over a period of five days. The information taken includes names, Social Security Numbers, birth dates, tax ID numbers, health insurance details, medical data, and financial account information.

The company has been busy notifying those affected, including various business clients such as Amergis, Beam Benefits, Beltway Companies, CareFirst, The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, Intercon Truck of Baltimore, Publishers Circulation Fulfilment, Quantum Real Estate Management, and Transforming Lives.

Kelly Benefits completed their investigation of the compromised files in early March. Since then, they've discovered that even more people were affected than they initially thought. At first, they told the Maine Attorney General's Office that the breach impacted about 32,000 people. Just ten days later, that number was updated to around 260,000. Now, their latest notification reveals that over 413,000 people have been affected.

There's still uncertainty about whether this was a ransomware attack, as no group has claimed responsibility for it.
