The identity and access management solution for Web and mobile applications, Amazon Cognito, has been updated by Amazon Web Services (AWS). The service enables developers to establish sign-in and sign-up experiences in applications, enabling role-based access to AWS resources, and secure machine-to-machine authentication. Users can now incorporate passwordless authentication techniques like passkeys, email one-time passwords, and SMS one-time passwords with Cognito's support for passwordless login with managed login.
A developer-focused console experience that simplifies onboarding with a wizard and use-case-specific advice is one of the new features. This enables developers to set up their sign-in preferences and design the application's sign-in and sign-up pages by following the guidelines supplied by the system. The blog post describing the change states that a new user pool, a user directory for authentication and authorization, is automatically established. Monthly active users are used to determine pricing. Except for AWS GovCloud (US) regions, all AWS regions where Cognito is accessible provide the Essentials and levels.
